Sunken boat project.

Dont know why you asked the question when the only answer is BUY IT!

1. Its an investment in forum content
2. We love a good told you so
3. Linked to number 1…..we are all bored due to naff weather

Jesting aside, it sounds a simple boat (as opposed to something like the Pearl mentioned). If you can get it for a cost where a replacement engine and full re-wire/ rekit doesnt put you out of pocket….id go for it. Anything saved is then a bonus. I’d go for it anyway on a wing and a pray but then I’m stupid

That's exactly the advice I was looking for!

I have 3 "off ramps".

Buy it, clean it and sell on as a project.
Buy it, repair it and sell it
Repair and keep it.

My AMT is a quality boat made in Finland so anything less may feel a bit low rent

But a 4 year old boat that's 0.8 metres longer with a bigger cuddy may be attractive...

Less talking…..more buying

I had a boat that reversed sank because of the bung.... I forgot to remove it !...actually I didn’t know because I was new to the game...and it filled with rainwater
Had to remember to take the bung out when out on the dory, water lapping over the tops of the seat and about 3cm from the top of the gunnel, bung out and a quick blast, the boat was empty in seconds. Previous owner had glassed over the elephants trunks, so the bung was the way to drain the boat.
she would still float filled to the top with water.

Don’t get #1. Why would a clean pre-sunk boat be worth any more than a dirty one? Won’t you just be out the cost of your time plus cleaning materials if you’re lucky?

##2 & 3 sound like a waste of time. But, your time; your choice.

All imho, of course.

Surprisingly, people are swayed by the look of a boat when buying.

Don't forget, it's normally the wife who will authorise the purchase.....

Surely, as soon as you mention it’s spent 24 hours under water, they’ll remember a pressing appointment elsewhere?

Now here comes a debate. Do you mention it? Granted……if you dry it out and spray all over with wd40…youd be a rotter for saying nothing. On the other hand….do a good job and replace the bits you should…..does it make any material difference?

I want it super dirty so i can get it cheaper and give myself more head room to fix it

I reckon I'll add a few thousand to the selling price just by cleaning it and presenting it correctly.

You are 2nd in the queue!!!

As an aside, I bought HP1 ( a Fletcher 19 GTO sports cruiser) and transported it from North Wales to the Hamble

Collection costs aside, I added £1k to a £5k boat....

It’s viable if you are up for replacing every wire and switch that was immersed.
For a smaller outboard powered boat, this could be a good idea.
For a mid sized cruiser, most likely not.

It is smaller.

Not that many circuits, brother and son No. 2 are electronics engineers......

“You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep space that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was young."

"Why, what did she tell you?"

I don't know, I didn't listen.”

Douglas Adams,

Good Luck :)

Unique fixer-up opportunity…

This has been sitting afloat for a few years, she was low in the water last October and when I seen her a few days ago she was sitting on the bottom half full of sea water.
