Summers are going to get better - it\'s official

Looks like the heatwaves like those experienced in 2003 could become a regular occurence, according to the Met Office, and it's all our fault.
<blockquote><font size=1>Quote from previous post:</font><hr>

Human activity has increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere and more than doubled the risk of record-breaking hot European summers, like that of 2003, according to a new study by Peter Stott from the Met Office's Hadley Centre for Climate Prediction and Research, and Dáithí Stone and Myles Allen of the University of Oxford.

Linked to more than 27,000 excess deaths across the continent, the temperatures of summer 2003 were almost undoubtedly the highest in Europe for over 500 years. This new research - reported in Nature - shows how human influence, mainly fossil fuel burning, can be blamed for increasing the risk of such a heatwave and that this type of summer could be expected to occur as often as every other year by the middle of this century.

I suspect that the human race generally has a much exaggerated view of its importance and effect on the world.

Maybe the Met Office would have attributed the Ice Age to a lack of fossil fuel burning...?

Re:ah but

Contrary evidenence suggest that with the realtive reductions of fossil fuel burning, the protection afforded by particles inthe air wil reduce, thus increase temps. I don't really think they know how/what is exactly the link, and much more exreme weather has existed only a century or so ago with thames freezing over. Couldn't happen thse days with lots of mobos and nice radiators innem...

Climate Change - its a load of bollox

Sort of begs the question why you are off to the Riviera, then! Seriously, though, we were moored in La Napoule last year and whilst it was scorching in the UK, it was verging on the unbearable in the Med so maybe climate change (if it exists) will see us all scuttling back to the Solent
I'm with tcm on this climate change thing. Nobody has yet come up with a scientific link between man made greenhouse gas emissions and climate change and we have'nt been collecting weather data anywhere near long enough to say for sure whether any climate change is taking place anyway

The environment is the latest in a long-lived line of child/crowd control methods. First, it was religion (behave otherwise the world will end) then when that didn't work it was the bogeyman/Hitler/Kruschev (behave or the world will end in four minutes) and now the Environment (behave - look, the world is ending a bit already! now whose fault is that hm?)

For me, this whole climate change thing is a vast conspiracy. Its brilliant for governments because they can foist loads of new 'green' taxes on us and at the same time appear totally right-on and PC. All the old discredited trotskyite socialists love it because they can use climate change to beat up on capitalism and globalisation and, of course, the climatologists love it because its jobs for the boys
You could laugh about it were it not for the fact that restriction on industrialisation in 3rd world countries is going to damage their ability to improve the prosperity of their populations.
