Been in there once on the way up to LochMaddy. Nice sticky clay bottom
It was raining and midgy, but a good secure place to be in.

So it was positively crowded when I was in there with two other boats in 2013. Happily no midges. To us it felt remote enough.
Mrs westhinder coined a phrase for the feeling she got from the Outer Hebrides: the Falklands feeling. It could have been the Falklands as far as she is concerned.

Weather fronts come in fast, use your well experienced sailing sixth sense- if it feels wrong, it is.
Remember the next hop is not essential, it's pleasure!
I like the Crinan canal! Crinan itself is lovely, as is Jura and islay.
A must do is the corryvreckan....at the right time!
