Ok. I have just sold (or will by this time tomorrow) my current boat and am on the market for a replacement. Looking to this esteemed group of sailors for suggestions.

My requirements:
- between 38-42 feet
- Plastic (no time to look after wood)
- No long keelers (I like boats that turn on a dime)
- Coastal cruising. None of this blue water stuff (max 400 mile trips or until beer runs out, whichever is sooner)
- Swim platform (need to keep the kids interested and am getting too old to climb these high freeboard boats)
- Reasonable performance
- Aft cockpit preferred (afraid of heights)
- New or nearly new considered

So suggestions welcome. And please no debates of wood vs plastic vs bav/bens/jens etc.

thanks

No mention of budget, which makes recommendations difficult however here goes.

I recedntly sold a big house and bought a small flat thus throwing up the money to buy a Najad 373. It is a cracking boat, it sails really well and the accomodation is superb. It has the bathing platform at the back, and all of the things you require but it is expensive.

My previous boat was a Sigma 362. That sailed extremely well and apart from pressure from SHMBO I might well have kept it. You can pick a SIGMA 362 up now for £45K or thereabouts. I had the boat out in all weathers and never felt that the boat could not cope. The accomodation was not as good as the Najads because the internal volume is 2/3rds of the new boat. Mine had two foot steps on the stern but I have seen them with bathing ladders.

If you are in the Cowes area and want a look at a Najad email me.

Moody 38 aft cockpit might cost you a tad over £100k

Malo38 again a little over £100k but you would have to add an aft platform or ladder but lovely boats.

Starlight 39 not sure what they fetch at the moment but may well be more than £100k

Sweden yachts ?

Re: Bavaria 38

The new Bavaria 38..only one heads, option it up with lead keel for better performance and stiffness and 55hp motor and you'll still have change. Great all round yacht within your budget.

Re: Benny Oceanis 411

411 is a very good boat - a little underpowered and underkeeled but a good solid boat. Lots of them sold to private owners as well.
