I am getting some quotes for a new main and genoa. Three companies are fairly competitive: Jeckells, Crusader and Suffolk Sails.

I know about Jeckells and Crusader from my and other peoples boats but have very limited knowledge of Suffolk Sails.

Has anybody used them and if so what were your experiences with the sails?

Thanks

Steve

Simon has made me several sail covers and other bits over the years as well as a new genoa, and will be replacing my spray hood later this year - I have always found him to be very personable and his work exceptional, at a competitive price. I would happily recommend Suffolk Sails.

I remember speaking to someone a few years ago who had a furling genoa made by them (for a Sadler 34) and he was very happy - it stuck in my mind because he wanted a bigger than standard sail (145% IIRC) to give better light weather performance, but which would set well when partially furled to give a similar area to the original sail. Given that light air performance is the achilles heel of most cruising yachts I thought that was quite a good idea. My direct experience is limited to minor bits and bobs (repairs, spinnaker recoating) which was all good.

Have to say I've always found Simon very good

With them having made a spitfire jib for me some time ago I went back earlier this week to discuss another slightly larger version along with a bag for an inflatable dinghy

Better to deal face to face in my opinion. There are only 2 of them and they always seem very busy but always manage to deliver on time

The same experience from me. Top guys.

Another recommendation for Suffolk Sails and Simon.

They made a very good replacement mainsail for us a couple of years ago (33ft cruising boat) and look after our sails every winter. They have also made a number of other things for us, (canvas work, snuffer etc.), which have all been fine.
