Stuck bendix ?

KAD 44 EDC

second time it has not engaged, in about 60 starts

Access is ‘fun’ will def pay some one to change this

But, what to do, this rare, live with it, can I put some lube in it ?

or change just the bendix or the whole starter ?

You won’t have the very old bendix type starter motor. It will be a pre engage starter where the gear engages from the solenoid and when fully home, the motor will start.
A lube won’t sort it ( no build up of clutch dust like a car) suggest taking off and get a local car electric recon shop to sort it

Ps of course could just be a poor wire connection.

when you try and start the engine and the starter engages properly, does the engine spin round nice and fast or is it slow and laboured?
I would be investigating every connection from the starter back to the ignition key before pulling the starter motor off.

But first investigate ....

“ dead mans click “ ..........you know not enough omph from the starter battery(s).

Internment faults are difficult always to pin down and be careful before bolting down a rabbit hole .:)

Check the bat health and connections first .

plenty of power, starts fine when it does engage = most of the time

i do use it quite a bit at the moment and would expect it to catch every time
