I have bought a small clinker launch fitted with a stuart turner single cylinder inboard engine marked either P5 or P6 serial no dificult to read but possibly 202.The boat has been laid up for about 40 years and I presume the engine is original does anyone know how old it is? I have no info on the boat either and hope to date it from the engine. Can anyone help or point me in the right direction.

I was talking to one of my colleagues in the Thames Traditional Boat Rally (TTBR) and understand that Martin Steggles has either bought Faiways or bought the assets. Either way he is now the ST man. I don't believe he is trading under the name of Fairways Marine.
I can probably get a contact number/ email address if you wish?

I had no idea that many people liked them. I would have ripped mine out of my first boat and thrown it overboard - if it hadn't rusted to the mountings.

I read a while back about a guy on the Chesapeak who had one. Stripped the magneto to make it into a simple contact breaker and used a 12v coil & battery. Started 1st time , everytime. As it was only for daily jolleys he charged the battery ashore.

Similar trick with Vire's as well - the old ones.

There used to be a private guy in Emsworth who recon'd / bought up old ST's - was supposed to be absolute bee knees on them. Often saw his wanted adverts in mags / papers.
