Struts for lockers

The gas strut is by far the simplest solution - no catches to operate or knobs to turn, just open and it stays open, close and it stays closed.

Yes they work great until the gas leaks out then it must be replaced as I have done several times on the tail gates on both SWMBO's car hatch tailgate and my 4X4 tail gate.

How long do you keep your cars? I've never had a strut go on any of my cars. Anyway as my gas strut for the chart table cost less than £2, I'm happy to replace it from time to time if required.

SWMBO's Honda is a 1998 model. My Toyota 4X4 is 2007

My Nissan SX200 is also 1998 but my MG is 1962 and my Lotus 1974 I think before gas struts were invented.

Cars last a long time where I live as we have warm dry days and nights with no salt on the roads humidity today is less than 20%

Gas struts cost a lot more also as all are imported,

Yes, my (top-opening) fridge has one. I pull the release knob and the door falls flat. Serious finger-fracture risk if done single-handed, as I do, so I catch the door with my palm out and the other hand well clear, and lower it.

I'd go to a Beneteau parts agent for it. I use Fox's Yacht Sales (no connection) - a helpful lady called Jacqui. My boat is a Beneteau Cyclades 39.3 so you'd be after the fridge door prop for it. Don't expect it to be cheap - Beneteau charge for spares - but it would do the job.

I'd far sooner replace it with a gas strut BTW, but that's not what you are asking.

Many thanks it might be that using a Ben part is the simplest source of a reliable fridge strut I was almost tempted to photograph the ones seen at SBS . I am not that fussy so long as the finger breaking bendy spring thing can be removed and replaced with a safer feature .
