I've heard and read good (and bad) things about Coelan and I have just used it on a brand new Spar and am pleased with the result.

So I'm thinking off 'varnishing' the rest of the boat with it. I guess though that nothing lasts forever and wonder what is the best way to get it off if it becomes necessary to strip back to the bare wood as one tends to do with traditional varnish exposed to the elements.

I know its tough stuff to sand off especially when freshly applied and no doubt a nightmare to remove in awkward places.

Until now I have been using Dec's 1 and 2 which I also like as it is quick and easy to apply a fresh coat on a regular basis.

Opinions welcome

Once the coelans gets old, you can actually peel it off, by getting hold of a corner and pulling it away, thats if you have used the reccomended number of coats, if its thin it's a swine to get off, but scraper and even heat gun does work. To repair, just cut out a square around the damge, peel off, re-primer and recoat. When you do remove it for some reason, you will find the wood underneath, amazingly clean and bright. If water gets under, from a split or whatever, often a "blister" forms, which is easy to remove and repair.
