Strange AIS data

Digging deeper, the cruiser forum post was slightly out as it was refering to your own boat.
If the target is transmitting heading then it will be in the ais target query box in opencpn, just confirmed this by copying as ais sentence from the new and playing it through VDR, showed a boat in seattle with heading data. The life boat at the moment is parked up at waterloo bridge transmitting cog data but no heading data.
Haven´t seen a boat yet on the river which is transmitting heading data.

So maybe the likes of marinetraffic are displaying cog and not heading, otherwise where would they get the data from?

The Lymington - Yarmouth ferries often appear to be going backwards on AIS, when their heading and COG are opposite to each other. This is because they are double ended and although the crew take the ensign down at one end and hoist it at the other, and at night the nav lights are switched over, the heading information into the AIS is left alone.

I've had the same with a CalMac ferry coming into James Watt Dock.
