I recently redid some of my wiring with much help from these forums http://www.ybw.com/forums/showthread.php?508969-Wiring-advice-for-a-Southerly-115/page4&highlight=southerly+wiring
Though I now seem to have an issue with the depth sounder. When at anchor or in a mooring, it picks up the depth and the reading seems to be correct on both the inside and the outside station. Though if I then turn on the engine, it briefly looses the reading and then shows a very high number (Much deeper than it should be) which changes frequently. I had thought this was due to the regulator not regulating the current from the alternator correctly (See post linked above) as the manual of the depth sounder says that if it shows a depth that is too shallow it is likely not getting enough power, so the reverse stands to reason. Though yesterday whilst out sailing after the engine was turned off, it would still show erratic figures that where too deep, in addition the inside and the outside station would show different depths. To try reset it, I turned it off and then back on again, whilst we were moving it was unable to pick up the depth and just showed 0.0 until the wind died and we just sat floating in one area ( chart said depths of about 40m) when it again picked up a depth that was wrong.
Now sitting typing this at anchor, if I turn on the depth sounder it picks up the depth and shows the correct reading 3m on both stations.
Thanks in advance for any advice?
