As part of our continuing efforts to learn this sailing thing we decided to use our Dinghy yesterday afternoon. Locked out at 14:30, just as the wind died and had to motor down to Jackson Bay, in Barry.
We had a small Bombard, but I found an Avon in the club skip. Applied some patches and new valves and it was good as, er, well, serviceable.
When I pumped it up on deck, I realised that the Bombard was much better suited, the Avon was huge. Dropped anchor and threw Louise, Tigger and various items of equpimnet into it. Low tide and it had just turned to run East.
As they left, the boat swung round and settled with the keel 2ft off the bottom. It seems that there is an eddy in that Bay, and when the main tide runs East, it runs West in there. Close, but we held.
Screams from the shore and much splashing. Very muddy at low tide apparantly:
All in all, a lot of work. In the car on the way home, Tigger asked why we didn't just drive to the beach, like we normally do.
