Storm Éowyn

Well it's gusting well in Cork...at the moment...with eery calms my house faces north onto the river, which flows east west, would not want to be out on it right now...but I have seen it much worse...definitely not a steady 25 with gusts of 50 kts as predicted by Met Eireann..for this moment intime..( they are displaying as kph to scare us...max gust predictions of 112with sustained 64kph.

I have an open backed cheapo tarp cover on the boat, and I left the mast up, which I wasn't sure about but folks told me it was standard practice. Bit worried now.
 
Millport new breakwater seemed to have constant white water over the top of it, according to webcam.
Daughter and Brother in law have already lost power at their houses. Advised will not be reconnected until tomorrow at best.
Storm B. Nora is proving an exceptionally bad one.
 
From my bed in Southampton, it seemed like a bit of a damp squib, but NCI Gosport shows this to prove that it wasn't.

As a confirmed wimp, I'm not sorry to be in the effete south. From the BBC:

A wind gust of 114mph (183km/h) was recorded at Mace Head at 05:00 GMT, making it the strongest gust of wind ever recorded in Ireland
 
Barometer rising in Wales but the wind is fierce. 93mph recorded in Aberdaron, I'm seeing regular gusts in the high 40s in the marina since 4am but everything seems to be holding together. 10t of boat frisking about like a dinghy. It's worse further North and my thoughts are with the few commercial ships out in the Irish Sea and beyond. Well South of the Amber warning area here in SW Wales. Bright Winter sunshine and a January Gale of wind about sums it up for us. 👍
 
I'm marooned in Troon. I was staying on board but the marina requested that I leave, so I'm ashore, but everything is shut - all shops, cafes, even the 3 McDonald's I tried. Travelodge not accepting new guests as they have no staff in to prepare the rooms. Going to have an assessment at 5pm with the marina when it's safe to go back on board. Meanwhile, it's going to be a long hungry day sitting in the car.
 
In case anyone thought the low pressure of 940hpa might make their ears bleed, spells of dizziness etc, the air density is the equivalent of being at just 2,000 above mean sea level in a "standard" atmosphere (1013.25hpa).

So not low enough to affect the quality of my morning cuppa. May give Fleetwood marina a miss today though ,will only upset me
 
Barometer bottomed out at 28.16"Hg (953 hPa or mB, take your pick). That's the lowest I've seen here, or anywhere for that matter. Starting to rise now the center of the low is passing to the north of us. The tide is still high. Three hours after high water and it doesn't seem to have dropped at all.
