Storing salt on a boat

Going for the prize for the most boring post ever. I have never found a satisfactory way of storing salt on my boat. Has anyone else? It always ends up damp on my boat.

I've discovered lots in the head, block and cooling system pipes of my 1GM10. Perhaps a tad heavy and expensive as a salt cellar, but hey, if it works ...

I'm grateful for the (in retrospect) stunningly obvious suggestion of a snap-on waterproof container - this might enable me to keep a pepper grinder working on board, which would be a first. Thinks... a snap-on waterproof container with a few bags of silica gel - that sounds like a solution!

I suspect that you're aware, but be careful with Silica Gel, also known as "DO NOT EAT" by a friend of mine due to this being the label on every packet.

I only use Maldon Sea Salt and I keep it in an old Douwe Egberts 100g instant coffee jar, it works for sugar,as well. They wash OK in the dishwasher and I use the 200g jars to store rice and pasta, too.

If your talking about large quantities then yes a large plassy airtight box with half a handful of rice in it does the trick.

If your talking about your salt cellar/shaker then use an old empty Lee & Perrins bottle.
Plastic insert at the top has same size hole as a normal salt cellar and a plastic screw on top to keep salt dry. Simples................and it works.

If you are going to cook you generally need some salt.
Do I? Something I'd not noticed then. On the boat or at home.

We have toast. We have a grill on our cooker, simples.
Likewise. Toast and marmalade for breakfast. Never put salt on it though

I’m led to believe that some of our Scottish brethren put salt on their porridge at breakfast though.
