Bonjour, Chanquette. Je pense qu'il est préférable de retirer la batterie quand elle n'est pas utilisée.

As M says ... but

If rechargeable battery pack - charge and leave in .... check at monthly intervals battery level. If low - charge back up.

If dry cells - remove as over time they can leak and destroy internals.

The GPS unit itself has the ability to re-load alamanac data when put back into use. It can take quite a few minutes - but left alone - it will sort itself out.

I have the original first eTrex ... it sits unused unless I go forest trails etc. It can take 4 - 5 minutes if I have moved from its last switch off position and left for long time ... but usually within 1 - 2mins its up and running.

I have an antique Magellan ... that can take 20+ mins to fire up ...

Its only when the unit is so old and cannot handle the Roll-over date that you can have trouble.
