sopke to him on the 'phone once but sadly he was all booked up - reckons he'd have you throw away yer GPS in no time.
Sounded like a really good instructor to me.
Now I've got someone on board that is going to teach us ( in between dressing up as women) we are going to take sights and things and do something meaningful with the numbers..
Yes, met him at the pre-start seminars on ARC 2001. Very good on astro and a good raconteur. The chief bee in his bonnet is his belief that the world's best cruising ground is the Azores. Sadly I missed his cruise in company there during ARC Europe 2002.
In March I did my ocean ym astro nav ticket with Stokey and can't recommend him highly enough. He does a weekend course on the Bilbao ferry out of Portsmouth which is an introduction to astro - this runs fairly regularly. Occasionaly he does a follow-up w/e which takes you further and includes the weather requirements for the ticket.
Absolutely brilliant bloke, excellent company, amazingly knowledgeable and great fun.
On the more serious side of things Sunday morning I watched a RYA video tape someone had given me.
'Stokey' sails a boat with new crew and the passage is from the Azores to Portugal. Have to say the mans attitude really impressed me, even though he must have been on his best behaviour for the film!
