Stiff organiser sheaves

On one of my Barton deck organisers a couple of the sheaves have become very stiff. There's no sign of mechanical damage. Suspecting salt build-up I've sprayed them with hot soapy water. I've also applied WD40 and reduced the tension in the through bolts. No joy. Any other suggestions? (they're really stiff you can barely pull them round with a taut rope)

If a quick spray hasn't worked, I'd dismantle them and clean/inspect properly.
 
You need to determine if the friction is in the shaft or side friction from the cheeks onto the sheave. As said remove the organiser. then try to prise the cheeks apart to hopefully release any cheek friction. If that does not help then remove the sheaves and the spacer axle provide more clearance. If it is cheek friction try to bend cheeks apart or even take some material off the sides of the sheaves. ol'will
 
Most likely to be salt particles between sheave and axle. I cured mine by rinsing with hot fresh water and working the sheave back and forth until it was free. Clamped a line around the sheaf to grip it. Took a while to get it to turn freely.
Some people rinse their organisers and blocks with fresh water after each outing to keep them free but I don't bother.
 
As others say, almost certainly carbonate salts due to evaporated seawater. Acid will clear it, vinegar slowly, hydrochloric in about 20 seconds but rinse quickly as the aluminium may be attacked, depending upon the alloy used.
