The EDC controls on our flybridge have become quite stiff. Mrs Blackfeather wants to have a go at helminth so they need to be easy to use.The ones on the lower helm are silky smooth presumably as they have been used very little.

Does anyone know if there is some sort of resistance adjustment or similar? Also how do you get into them - do the control arms pull off in some way.

Thanks in anticipation of lots of help!

Prize off the end cap that may say edc, use 8 mm socket to undo bolt this will take movement resistance off, tighten up bolt to desired setting .

And if you are unlucky, it has been mounted so close to the hull that you have to take the whole unit off to get at the second throttle...

If they have become stiff over time then it is unlikely that loosening the friction adjuster inside will fix it. Normally the aluminium housing corrodes and presses the plastic bush hard against the shaft. The two bolts that volvopaul describes have to be removed then the throttle levers can be removed (keeping them in the neutral position whilst pulling them out) and then the plastic bush. The corrosion can now be removed from the inside of the hole with some sandpaper ( be very careful not to damage the neutral micro switch). Put it all back together with a small smear of grease. Make sure the levers are in the neutral as they are fitted and again be careful of the micro switch. The two bolts will need to be refitted with some thread lock or they will slowly unscrew with use.

Hope this helps.

And remember to be careful with the micro switch!
