Evening All,
I think my Stern Glands are dripping a little too much, I am getting about 25 drips a minute. What is the norm?

Is that when stationary or when moving? Shouldn't drip at all at rest. Drip a minute or so about normal

So if you have twins that's 21dpm on each. If you have a single your dripping too slowly....

More to the point has the drip rate increased?

I am getting about 25 drips per shaft per minute at rest. The drip rate has probably increased a little but I have been working on the principle that the shafts must be lovely and cool when running/forums/images/icons/cool.gif

My personal feeling is that 25 per minute is too fast....should be only a few like 3 or 4 at most.....but hey, what do I know.......

One things for sure though....never heard anything so whacky as sharing a drip rate bewteen shafts !

I've been told it should be 6 drips per min but mine drips a little faster than that. I figured it wouldn't do any harm and left it at about 15.
However, when I first bought the boat I took it out for a lovely weekend and when I got back to the moorings decided to check the gland. Water was pouring in. Nearly S**T meself /forums/images/icons/shocked.gifAs a new boat owner I didn't know they just needed tightening up.
