I need to get some C spanners for the castleated nuts on my stern gland. I measured the outer diameter at 54mm. I did find a post recomending a source but can't find it now.

Any ideas?

There is no reason why the nut and gland should be sweated up tight. While this suggestion would normally cause me righteous indignation at its barbarity - have you tried giving it a wee tap with a screwdriver and hammer? I spent ages procuring the correct size spanners to hold the gland and locking nuts only to find that a wee tap was all that was needed!

I made up one using a bit of ply, as you don't need much of a handle on it. Ultimately changed to a more modern seal, and look back at the memories of pain and cursing!

My boat came with one that had obviously been home-made out of aluminium sheet. Worked fine, must have taken all of half an hour to make with a hacksaw and a file.

Thanks Cromwell were the ones I was after. I've alread done the "wee tap with a hammer" thing. I have to admit to never having the thing apart & it is up very tight.

on mine, there is an adjuster and a lock nut. So it's essential to hold the adjuster whilst nipping up the locknut.
You can't do this with a hammer! Also the adjustment is fairly critical if you want no drips and no excessive wear.

I'm just intrigued that the stern gland nuts would be CASTELLATED ?? .... I always thought you simply had a plain nut and a lock-nut. Can anyone explain please?
