I have found my steering difficult, I discoinnected the stern drive arm and the Wheel turns great, I tried to move the stern drive with my hand but couldn't shift it. Is this normal if not what should I check?

Thanx Steve

Have you greased the pivot joint, there should be grease nipples on either side of it.

What type of drive is it? has it not been used or has it been laid up?nm

I said NM

If it is a Volvo they have bushes that wear and tighten up. Leg off to replace and then plenty of grease regularly.

A friend brought a boat a few years ago, a single stern drive with power assistance to the steering. This steering was very tight, he disconnected the power assistance to the steering arm which freed it up considerably, obviously the power assistance was faulty. The repair cost was so expensive he has quite happily done without it.Steve.
