Visit site The benefit I can see is that you should have more steerage with the engine in neutral than with just the outboard shaft. I guess the engine under the cover is more powerful than the four horse job on the bracket.

Not just neutral, but helps at low engine speeds, without having to blast the engine to add steerage which also adds speed when you don't need it.
