I've discovered our anchor windlass has been trying to escape. Our somewhat bodgily (by the previous owner? Surely not!) installed windlass is mounted on blocks of marine ply to raise it to the right height. The windlass is bolted to the wood, which is in turn bolted through the deck. In itself, the idea is fine. However, the bolts holding the ply to the deck haven't been fitted with washers, and the holes are so close to the edges of the blocks that 1) washers wouldn't really work and 2) the edges are starting to crumble anyway.
My idea is to get a plate of stainless made up to sit between the windlass and the wood, which would act as a huge washer, and also more evenly distribute the load from the bolts throughout the wood.
However, need to find someone to knock this up for us. As I see it, it should be fairly easy for someone with the right tools to do.
We're in Vathi at the moment, but are obviously mobile. Can anyone recommend someone in the area that could assist?
