I got the full blast of the wisdom of the forum on this thread. Bought the tiny Fenix torch recommended. Pretty damned bright, not cheap, runs on dry cells. Never used it in earnest, and I guess it doesn't count as outrageously powerful, but it is small, always works, and does a good job aboard.

I bought the B&Q equivalent a couple of weeks ago at a tenner. Bright enough for a back garden searchlight but I'll get something more marinated for boat use.

How does this fit in with my 60 watt halogen lantern that plugs into the boat battery circuit?
Can they be equated?

After bit of searching i have found a 55 watt halogen bulb listed in the replacement parts for one (Sealey) 1 million CP light

I guess your 60 watt one will be just a little bit brighter.

55 watt bulb ( same as many car fog/spot lights) in mine. Often wondered how it compared with these mega candle power lights. I reckon I have pretty good idea now)
