I'm bemused as to why the USAF have spent so many billion on a stealth aircraft. From my observation using radar, they should just have made 'em out of wood as anything wooden is invisible to my radar unless its got a radar reflector! Wonder if the the old Mossie was invisible on radar?

There was a good sf story ...

... about a stealth fighter that somehow went back in time to the first world war. The pilot reckoned he would be able to wrap up the arial war in a matter of days. He persuaded the authorities to let him test-fly the plane in action, first having a great deal of trouble to find a suitable runway and fuel. But his radar systems wouldn't recognise the wooden enemy planes as targets, their engines didn't put out enough heat for his heat seeking missiles to lock on to, eventually he was reduced to trying to ram them. After a couple he crashed. Not a practical design worth further consideration, concluded the authorities.

Wish I could remember the author.
