Starting the new season

With the weather improving, I just wondered if you had any tips for starting the new season?

Turn right when leaving berth. (turning left would put me in the clubhouse)

Start with a boat fully fixed after last season with all the little nagging problems fixed. Set out with hope and optimism for a lot of good sailing. Just do it.
Mean while here in the antibides weather is getting cooler and I must slap some paint on the trailer in anticipation of winter lay up at home. (ready for yet another season in September.) good sailing for the new season olewill

top tip ... don't forget too unplug the shore power when leaving your berth for the first time since last October

Another top tip, if you have removed the log impeller to allow the dehumidifier to drain while on the hardstanding - don't forget to put it back in before you launch.

Make sure the boat is actually in the water for the start of the season - there were still loads of boats in the car park when we returned from our weekend sailing with sun burned faces

On a more serious note:
Following the recent winds, check any halyards which were left up, they may have chafed while beating in the gales.
Again following the storms, check all fittings to ensure they are tight. Shackles and bolts may have worked loose with the movement over the winter and you don't want to be sailing when you find out.
Look up the mast - my wind indicator flew off in the storms.
Watch your depth gauge - the storms have moved the seabed, sometimes drastically so charts should not be relied upon until this settles down and new soundings are recorded.
Wear sunscreen - this weekend was brutal out on the water

+1 - being hit on the head by the shackle falling from my peak halyard block was an unpleasant surprise a few years ago

Put the sails back on!

I did genny yesterday and it was a b***** going up despite plenty of silicon spray.

And then... I sat down to read the manual (furlex) and apparently I have put the sail in the wrong groove. I really can't see it making any difference and I am stubbornly refusing to drop it and start all over again unless someone can tell me why I should .

From memory, it is supposed to reef better if using the correct grove
