Hi Folks,
Looking for someone to work their magic here...
A friend requires a replacement starter for his Volvo TMD60. It's in a big waterjet RIB.

Pics attached.

If anyone knows of where to get one, a contact/link would be much appreciated!

Looks in a bad way that one.

Anyway maybe this is worth a try, Last year I had the pleasure of having to purchase two starter motors and an altornator for similar Volvo engines. When i got a quote from the usual Volvo penta agent I nearly passed out. Now bear in mind that I am based in Spain but I would think it would be the same in UK.

I went to a large car parts company and said I needed two starter motors and an alternator. The guy behind the counter took the part numbers and went to his computer. came back saying the parts were available in Barcelona and he could have them the following afternoon. I said will they be exactly the same, he said well the part No match. next day they all arrive and apart from being painted green they were identical. I supose from a Volvo truck or similar. Fitted them and they are fine. I was quoted 700 euros for a VP starter motor and the car agent supplied for 325 euros Big saving in my book.

Even picked up a can of VP green engine paint and blasted them over Job done...Why don't you try yellow pages and find a local volvo truck agent and give it a go.

maybe it will work for you as it did for me.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info folks.

The owner is aware that its an insulated return, and 9 tooth as opposed to the more common 11 tooth.

oceandrive - i'll give that a shot, thanks

PS. I think it needs a total replacement - The owner is quite technically/electrically competent and that was his opinion

Problem is in the name...........

Stop talking Swedish and switch to German. Contact pretty much any commercial rotating electrical specialist, just tell them you require a service exchange or unit repair of a BOSCH 0-001-413-004n or 0-001-418-009. I assume we are talking 12 Volt.

ALL replacement parts are available for this starter even if they have to replace every single component and just retain the casing (unlikely). Start talking ouright purchase and you are into big $$$$$$$$

Excellent information :) Thanks a lot for that.

I think the owner is insisting on a new starter, his own choice I guess.

Does that mean that one of the Bosch part no's above is the part number of the starter?

Owner has just told me it's a 24v starter, 9 teeth (as mentioned above)

Funny, all the 24v's i've seen seem to have 11 teeth

Any ideas?
