Does the Starlight 39 and 35 have a deck or keel stepped mast, if they are deck stepped are there any inherent problems with them.
Have to confess that I'm saving my pennies for one like this.
I don't want to come across as someone who knows much about these boats, but the snaps I have seen show deck stepped masts for the 35 and keel stepped for the 39.
They seem well thought out, not least the strong keel design.
Spot on. The 35 has a substantial round wooden pillar under the mast step.
Mast support column in my 35 is steel - painted white. Suspect yours might be steel with a wood veneer?

Its not wood but the steel pillar in my 35 Bowman built boat was veneered in wood by the builder so you could be forgiven for thinking it was tree.
Unless that is, there is a sort of wood that clangs when you tap it with a spanner!
If you want to know anything about the 35, pm me. Had mine for 7 years now and will keep it until I swallow the anchor.
Thanks. Never hit mine with a spanner so will now check!
Anything else I should know that might be hidden/less obvious?
Fred drift, but I have an annoying forepeak bulkhead leak...

The 39 has a keel stepped mast.
As far as the high bridge deck/companionway is concerned, at a certain point it was adapted and lowered at the insistence of a buyer and all subsequent boats were built with the lower bridge deck. Quite a lot easier to get into the boat, the trade-off being that the passage between aft cabin and heads has less headroom. The right decision, as far as I'm concerned.
Any questions on the 39, feel free to pm.
