I have been pulling in alternative quotes for the replacement of the standing rigging of my 36 footer. In no particular order, Ocean Rigging, Performance Rigging and Berthon are in the frame. I would rather have a decent job than just go with the lowest price. All seem very professional. Do any forumites have any recent experience of these firms to help me finalise my decision?

I had new standing rigging supplied and fitted by Ocean Rigging a couple of years ago, I was very happy with the service, quality and cost so would certainly recommend.

I used Eurospars last year and very happy with their help and professionalism. All remote as I'm up north.

Yes, our boat‘s homebase is the Solent so I have gone for ones that are reasonably nearby.

It was more forumites experiences of the ones I mentioned rather than other names but I am grateful for the alternatives.

The mast and boom are actually Eurospar/Sparcraft but I hadn’t appreciated that they are riggers as well as suppliers and hadn’t asked them to quote. Being in Plymouth they are quite far away.

Using local riggers will allow me to travel back to my mooring whilst the rigging is made and to avoid the associated temporary berthing costs.

Thank you.

My experience of Performance Rigging was very positive.
We bought the boat at Hamble Point Marina and no rigging inspections are allowed on dry land and so we arranged with PR for a rig inspection upon launch. Our plan was to launch, engine trial and inspect rig and depart the following morning to make our way back to the East Coast.
They came and found a wrong size pin at the top of the mast and were not at all happy with it - none of this 'Oh well, it will probably be ok, just take it easy etc' it was straightforward - 'Don't move until this is done'.
To put that advice into context, it was the middle of Cowes Week, they didn't have a new one in stock and they had to drop the forestay/reefing and move the mast around to get the job done. They were obviously under a lot of pressure and being pulled in many directions but they were great IMHO and I never felt anything less than we had now become their priority and they were going to sort it come what may. And they did. They eventually found a replacement and turned up mob handed to get it done and it took them a good while; they checked everything and tuned the rig and it was the evening when they left.
I remember thinking how grateful I was at the care they had taken and, at the same time, I was totally over a barrel in HPM and I was just going to have to suck it up and smile when the bill came. Just checked the bill (2014) and it was £184. All things considered, that was more than reasonable and fair and worth every penny.
No other connection at all to PR.

Thank you for the comments It is really difficult to decide. Though there are the usual superficial, star-rated Goggle reviews (which I treat with a pinch of salt) there seem to be little other meaningful comment that one can trust. That being said, I came across a Tom Cunliffe video yesterday that praises Berthon.

I tred Ocean and Berthon but both could not be bothered as my boat was too small 31ft and they where too busy.

I ended up with these guys in Shamrock quay www.spencerrigging.co.uk on time, on price and I only had to deliver the boat to them and they took care of everything else.

Bigger than my boat! I did though, give quite a period when they could do the work at the end of the season.

I used Robertsons boatyard in Woodbridge - took the rigging to him, he went through it carefully, recommended a couple of improvements, good price and delivery and it fitted perfectly
