Standardising battery terminals

If one seal goes, what are the risks of others failing fairly soon if made of the same material and subject to the same tribological conditions ? If that crimper is the one you want to take RTW then a full service or replacement is indicated.

While we a talking about hydraulic tools who has a hydraulic car jack either in their car at home or on their boat / boat trailer.

I have several hydraulic jacks ranging from 4 ton to 20 ton plus a dedicated 20 ton press.

I also have a screw puller to remove my prop if necessary.

This I think would be a useful addition like the combination of a hydraulic jack and a prop puller

Useful for pressing in seals, bearings bushes and any other interface fit

Could also be used to crimp cables with the correct dies.

What's needed is a hydraulic dev ice to carry out the following operations on board:-

cable terminations, with dies and ferrules

bearing removal and replacement

standing rigging cutting in emergencies

If it can pull as well as push, then even better.

That's easy the press I posted can do all of that with the appropriate dies shears and bushes/sockets as spacers and other attachments.

A piece of kit like this is what will do but may be over kill for some boats.

It was leaking as I left it in the open position on its side in the case for over a year unused. It only has a small quantity of oil in so just needed topping up to use. The leak did not stop it working. The main piston seals have been perfect but easily replaced if I was worried, I’ve had the crimper for 6 years now with no other problem.

guys, care to post which one you've got?
about to order one but as it stands, I have to avoid UK sellers from now on, which makes life rather difficult :-(
only found one in DE and I guess it's just a matter of me searching using EN terminology since I don't speak FR/DE/IT...

YQK-70 is the model number - I have the same one Paul posted. The bigger ones are YQK-120 and YQK-240 which come with larger dies and then larger hydraulics. There are about 8 models in the range in all

thanks guys,

now with brexit, the one Paul points to comes up to: 22.89+15.83shipping+9.89import tax == 48.61quid or circa 57euro...
cheapest from DE is 38+13shipping 51euro. Not brilliant but easier to deal with and most likely faster to deliver.

yep its the YQK-70, all of them seem to be the same model...

cheers

I expected to find a load of them on Ebay from China, but there didn't seem to be any. Odd ?

AliExpress seem to have them for €18 with free shipping. Obviously drop shipped so would likely take longer but it's quite a saving

was also very confused with that Paul, since I'm not really in a hurry was hoping for 20 or so quid and 2m waiting :)
there's only one or two at 80quid!

never bought something from AliExpress tbh, since that's a heavy package, wonder if I will get stung with customs. Will ask a friend who's buying from that thing regularly.

cheers

Aali is just a Chinese version of Amazon, they are very good at what they do and have been reliable for me. Their website looks a bit busy through western eyes but that's a culture thing you just have to accept when shopping half a world away. Customs is down to the country. Duty will be payable but on €18 shouldn't be crazy and would be identical to an Ebay seller, in my experience the sellers on Ali mark up the package correctly. Chinapost deliveries are free but have better tracking than DHL through the international systems, you can use Royal Mail (or other local carrier) website to track once you have a tracking number and you'll see every scan on the journey.

Be careful, Aliexpress has a lot of stuff for sale and it's all cheap and generally good quality for the money.

That well-known journalist, Nigel Calder, once wrote an article in one of the yachting magazines claiming that using stainless steel washers on busbars was a bad idea because they'd heat up and cause fires. It was complete bollocks. Someone had told him that, and he repeated it.
If you use cheap ones there's not much nickel in there anyway problem solved lol
