I've got a SH HX300 handheld with a dodgy USB charging socket. I've tried their "fixed cost repair" service email address twice and cc'd their sales team in and got no reply. (service*standardhorizon.co.uk)

Anyone have a reliable way to get them to do the repair or recommend somewhere else that will do it? (Ideally in the Eastern Solent area but happy to post somewhere.)

Would it be worth asking a local computer/phone repair place? Swapping charging sockets must be pretty routine for them.

If your HH is like mine, it's an old type of socket, needing a lead that I don't use for anything else, so it might be worth asking if a general repair shop could put in a USBC socket instead.

That’s really unusual, they are not far from you, why not call in to them, they don’t bite

I have used that email address in the past and got a quick and very helpful reply. Suggest you check your spam, try sending from a different email address or telephone them

Firstly thanks everyone. Not sure why I needed the entire resources of the internet to make me simply give them a ring, but I did and they answered immediately and were superb.

Unfortunately it's left me with a dilemma. This won't be a cheap fix. £40 to look at it before they start work and they know from experience it will be a pricey fix so suggested a new Radio. It's criminal because the radio is immaculate.

On the bright side, there are options:

1) Find an external charger for HX300 batteries. (Batteries seem to be cs-shx122t). I can't see one anyone help?

2) Buy the £20 Standard Horizon FBA-44 cartridge to allow use of AAA batteries. As it happens I have an infinite supply of 2200mah AA rechargeables. I'm pretty certain these aren't going to perform as well as the lithium OEM battery and I must admit my experience of using AA and AAA batteries in Handheld VHF radios has been pretty poor. (Based on a sample of 1.).

3) As suggested above get a local repair place/mobile phone place to take a look. I'm kind of reluctant. I need it to be reliably waterproof more than I need a working USB socket.

I'm strongly veering towards option 2.

Thoughts?

I also sent a query via that form a little over week or two ago; albeit a (small) sales enquiry rather than service. No response.

Ring them on the number in the contact form above. She had her replies in her sent box but I'm pretty sure they weren't in my spam folder so I guess they have an e-mail problem. (Although she mentioned having been away on holiday last week so your reply might be delayed for that?)

Either way, the phone number gets you immediate access to a helpful knowledgeable person. (Based on a sample of 1!)

Me too, to their German site, a while back. Was very surprised and disappointed. I'm very overdue to chase them up.

Do you all have gmail addresses? I ask because they have started bouncing our emails sent using our ISP's webmail, which is normally the most robust system...

I used a yahoo address, but I suppose the root cause might the the same if two companies went with the same process at the same time.

I have no doubt DH had the reply in their sent folder and I'm 99pc sure the reply wasn't in my spam folder. So pretty sure it's a technical issue rather than them not replying.

The UK member of staff was on holiday last week so UK questions might be a little delayed at the moment, but that's a different issue. :)

The phone service was first class. No automated message, no hold, just immediate connection to an articulate UK employee who knew what they were talking about.
