Standard Horizon GX2200 - pre-purchase questions

I have the SH 1700 for that very reason, the old GPS to VHF was always losing its position and I wanted to know that when the wee red button was pressed my position would be sent.

Ditto. GX1700E (easy to install and has good GPS signal) at the chart table and an AIS. I've also got a splitter so I can use the main VHF aerial. I find it to be an effective solution.
 
I also chose the Icom, not so much for the big knob (not that there's anything wrong with that) :). But the NMEA 2000 integration makes installation easier and less troublesome.

It has no inbuilt GPS, but by taking advantage of the NMEA 2000 system it has access to several GPS units some with external aerials.
