Autosol is way up there for SS. Not sure what it costs from Halfords, but brilliant to use.

Caustic soda (drain cleaner) from the pound shop works too but be careful, it is potent stuff.

Dr Power, I got mine from Sainsbury's for £3 a tub, used it on really manky brushed SS balcony that had defied all attempts to get it clean even using Autosol, which I previously thought unbeatable.

It appears to be a liquid spray bottle so not as convenient to use as a cream ?

If you're thinking of saving money, why not get Tesco's own-brand cream cleaner? It's worryingly expensive at 30p for a half-litre bottle, but is very effective on stainless steel.

Let's face it, many so called "marine" products are just repackaged and rebadged domestic products at crazy markups.

I have a tube of SS cleaner bought from a chandlery. It smells like Brasso to me and I suspect is chemically identical?

I thought that Autosol was good until somebody suggested Aluminium Foil and Coke (the drinking kind - it's cheaper). WOW!!!

Literally just pour (dribble) coke onto surface to be cleaned and rub with foil. It works like magic on pitted rust marks (discovered doing bumper of my slightly neglected car!!!)
