Stainless lettering on curved transom

Any ideas on fitting 3mm thick stainless steel letters to curved transom please? The ones I have seen have lifted at the edges. Thanks.

How were they originally bonded? Vhb? Would 5200 be a better choice as filler/adhesive?

3mm thick? Do you need to ballast the boat at the stern maybe?!?

Make a simple wooden jig and compress into shape in a vice.

Thanks. To be newly fitted so not bonded before. Ballast aft not a problem as big anchor fitted��Not sure about jig? Do you mean each letter to form curve.

I thought about having stainless studding on back of letters and bolting through transom and maybe using small tubular spacers. Anyone done this?

Lots of my customers have 3mm but I'd rather be trying to bend 1mm letters. But you're right, a large 3mm name can weigh over 3 kilos as I've found to my (postage) cost!

A simpler solution would be to choose a condensed / narrow font or apply thicker VHB tape to the left and right of the letters and thinner tape in the middle.

When you say you've seen lifted letters, was that on your model of boat or another? Have you held a straight edge against your transom to see if it's an issue for your letter width?

The letters lifted were on a couple of other boats. That's a really good point on size . I will check if a smaller lettering is better on the curve. Thanks

Cool. Wider letters can be there times the width of narrower letters and the catenary effect will be much greater. Here's an example of a narrow font on the back if a Targa 30 that has quite a rounded transom.

That looks good. What size and thickness is it please?
