Staines-under-Thames

Yes, I wondered how our friend might be fairing.

I used to live at Thameside just above Penton Hook Lock. We were quite lucky as the weir tended draw the water down. River had to be very very high to reach the towpath.

Wonder what it's like there now. After heavy rain yesterday (29th), I imagine water will rise even more.

My garden (marlow) has some thames in it too

Thought for the day.....

If the EA are so keen on charging for boat floating on "their" water, to the extent that all marina berths are now subject to inspection....

I urge all riparian owners to send a bill to the EA - for storing their water!!
:D

Hi Geoff

This has been really hard work. A few photos in this flickr set:

I had planned for a restful break, but have probably worked harder than when I am at work! The waters are starting to recede now so I reckon tomorrow will be clear up day. The November flood left a dangerous layer of silt. I slipped and fell on it before getting a chance to clean it... then a neighbour did the same (and broke her wrist). Lesson learnt: Clear up asap.

On the other hand, the level might just be lowering to make way for more to come.

Still, our pumping station is still working and the water would have needed to rise another couple of feet for it to be a risk to the house. There are people nearby with much bigger problems than us.

We tried that about 10 or so years ago when NRA/EA tried to charge riparians for piles in the water. Many of us replied requesting them to remove their water from our property. Never heard another word.:)

Hi Tony and Geoff!

Hope I'm not too presumptuous to suspect your concerns might have been about me?

The family Brown's are in good shape - bit of a problem with the office having 3 inches of water & silt which isn't much good for stuffed filling cabinets and the kids soundproofed music & games room shed is wrecked but that's nothing compared to some of our neighbours. Two doors away they had water bubbling up between the floor tiles in the bathroom.

I moseyed in here to get a bit more of a heads up on anticipated levels and sure enough found the links, so many thanks for that.

Best regards

Hi Mike,

Of course concerned for you. I guess when Penton Hook tackle drawn you get the lot. Very nice living beside the river, the downside is times like this.

As I type this, it's chucking it down here in Oxfordshire, so I fear you have more water on the way.

Chin up, keep yer face dry. Hope it doesn't get too bad.

River dropping back nicely now on the Shepperton weir stream.
Many thanks to the lockies for all their vigilance and hard work in keeping a good flow going. I trust EA/CART will take note of their vital role on the river.:)

Glad someone found the plug for the Thames! Dropping away nicely now with a substantial flow. Those without floating pontoon moorings had better check their ropes if they want to avoid a swinging boat !!
