Stained Interior Teak

Apologies in advance if this is an obvious one, I'm afraid I'm new to this...

My boat (Leisure 27) has suffered a small leak from a window and some of the interior teak (the bulkhead aft of the forecabin) has been stained with rainwater. With the leak now fixed I am left with a discoloured patch of wood, surrounded by white streaks. The teak appears to be lightly varnished, with a matt finish and the white staining appears to be under this varnish coating. I have not attempted to clean it up yet as I fear doing more harm than good. Any suggestions as to how best approach this?

Thanks

White staining is usually varnish damage. If very superficial you may be able to remove with a fine abrasive like Brasso or rubbing compound. If the whole depth of the varnish is affected you may need to strip and revarnish.
If the water has penetrated to the wood you would get a grey /black stain that can be removed with oxalic acid ( remove varnish first)

Had the same problem on our saloon table after a leak around the mast.

I removed the varnish using nitromors (sounds drastic, but it isn't. )

Sand down to remove stain.

Give 3 coats of International Origal Gloss Varnish, rub down between coats with 300 grade glasspaper.

Give one final coat of Evithanes Rubbed Finish if you want a fine matt finish.

It gave me a perfect match.

Cheers
