If any forumites are planning to use the stand mast route via Haarlem, be aware that the lock at at Spaarndam is shut until further notice.
The drought has caused salinity to be too high for the drinking water apparently.
We are waiting at Ijmond for reasonable weather for the sea passage South, or enough rain to allow the lock to open.

Wednesday next week looks OK for going outside! Cheer up, it might rain enough soon. Don't miss the Teyler's museum in Haarlem though.

Thanks, you do know how to cheer a chap up!
Ijmond would be a lovely spot to wait if only it wasn't right under the flight path.
Another Brit here reckons tomorrow is a good day to head for Scheveningen, but I has me doubts.

Why not over nacht via Amsterdam, it has to be done at least once :encouragement:
or is that route affected as well

Latest info I can find is that the night convoy route is also closed but they are blaming the hot weather for that. The harbour master here is very helpful and said he will make some phone calls to find out the latest news.
WV Ijmond is a super friendly club in a pleasant if remote spot, but the aircraft noise!
Might backtrack and explore Zaandam.

When going along the canal I was timing the aircraft, one very 90 seconds ;-) you should get used to it soon!

The noise can be very local in this area. A couple of years ago we passed through the railway bridge at Kaag in the evening going north. Most of the other boats stayed at the nearby staging and had a miserable night, while we continued a mile or so to stay at a small YH in the next village for a modest cost and enjoyed a quiet rest.

It's true about getting used to the noise, much less intrusive after 2 days.
They are going to have a meeting on Wednesday to think about opening Spaarndam sluis, but the night convoy route
is now open again so we'll give that a go tomorrow. Could have gone tonight but 32 knots of wind and torrential rain wasn't very tempting.

the over night has to be done at least once, the Niewmeer is unbelievably deep, you will have a long wait at the Schiphol bridge & Gouda rail bridge. if you have time go into Gouda

Is it practicable to do the night convoy & the Schiphol bridge in one go, or better to have 2 bites at it?
Will probably stop in Gouda, had a great visit there before.
A Dutch neighbour has recommended Leiden so might explore there.

It's screaming here in Ijmond at the moment. Just been out to double up the mooring warps.
Monsoon like rain been going on for over an hour.
The irony is that we're stuck here because of the drought!

Well from my experience, its well protected from the S/W even if the food in the clubhouse is akin to camping :friendly_wink:

Rain just stopped briefly at Enkhuizen. Looking at possibility of crossing N Sea Sunday, otherwise looks like a wait for a bit longer. Next Saturday...? Your comments over fixed mast route useful. Will look at forecast in morning as it seems to change quite a bit at the moment, and usually either stronger winds or a more SW direction!

We really like Dordrecht. If you like art then the Dordrecht Museum is superb.
The railway lifting bridge is a classic of Dutch engineering.

I have mixed feelings about Dordrecht. The town itself I find rather dark and overbearing but as you say, the museum is very good, but not perhaps up to that in Gouda (there is one Rembrandt). There is a brilliant pre-Seagull outboard motor in one of the YC marinas that I forgot to photograph last year, so there's a chance for someone. The big church has the largest carillon in Europe which gives great concerts. The bloke in charge played Rule Britannia in our honour.

I have done night route south to Gouda in one hit OK but you cannot hang about. I was lucky, bridge at schipol opened a bit earlier than advertised.
i am currently in Ostend and heading to Amsterdam when crew arrives end of next week.

Can anyone comment on how full the harbours like middleburgh are at the minute. Ostend has been packed.

also can someone direct me to a website with info re the situation at Harlem and Sparndam please.
would rather go via harlem and back via night route if possible
