I have an Autohelm ST6000 on a 1994 Dehler 35, bought last year but not much used since. It originally worked OK but on my last two outings, after about an hour some of the 9 cells in the LCD panel fail, making the message unreadable (although after careful study of the user manual it is somtimes possible to decipher what it should be). The autopilot itself, at least on Auto setting - I have not tried it on Track - continues steering the boat in the right direction. Normal service is reumed after switching it off for half and hour or so. It may be relevant that immediately before this fault started I replaced the original Simrad NMEA0183 wind, speed and depth instruments with Raymarine Seatalkng ones.
There are ST6000(+) controllers on Ebay with a provison that the LCD needs repair or has been replaced, but not in the UK. I often sail single handed, so really need a fully functioning autopilot.
I am pondering my options. It would be nice to replace the ST6000 with a new Evolution, but if a repaired ST6000 was possible and likely to be reliable I would consider that too, at least in the sort term.
Any thoughts, knowledge or similar experiences welcome.
