ST50 depth guage

Went to the boat this weekend and noticed that the Autohelm ST50 depth gauge was working fine but would then suddenly start flashing all the screens and sounding the alarms. It would then settle down again.

As the weekend has progressed it no longer reads the depth but flashes through the screens and alarms continuously.

I took the gauge out to clean all the connectors and they seem fine. I did notice that the unit did exactly the same with the transducer cable disconnected.

Could anyone tell me if it will be the ST50 head or the transducer.

If the transducer is suspect how do I check it?
