Hi folks
Now I know that it is normally water getting in that causes these to die but not in this case. The ram/arm went out to full lock (as it often does) and I heard a crunch, it still works but does not sound as it should.

Pulled it apart and it's dry as a bone inside, not even salt deposits which is good but the problem is with the two rails that the ram run on, on each one a machine screw has pulled out, one on the outer end and the other on the inner end and with no thread left I can't screw it back in.

So, please, has anyone got a ST2000 that has died of water ingress I can cannibalise for bits??

I'm sure I could send to raymarine but I'm execution that the cost would not be worth is on a pilot that is (I think) 13years young.

P.s. it's a lovely evening, just enjoying the last of the sun on Spinnaker tower, Portsmouth and the kids are quiet at last.

Try degreasing the screws and holes, and gluing them in with Araldite or similar epoxy. It would easily be strong enough. If you give up,I would be interested in buying the carcass off you to cannibalize! Cheers Jerry

Drill and re-tap for a bigger screw?

(Obviously depends on the situation; I don't know what you're looking at.)

I sympathise. It's a ridiculously clumsy design without a limit cut-out to prevent it smashing itself to bits - Raymarine should be ashamed of themselves.

Presumably they don't want the standalone pilots to be too good, otherwise they might take sales from the more expensive modular versions?

To be fair to raymarine it is 13years old and is (according to their specs) under sized for use on a Co32. But it should be able to withstand hitting it's own end-stops.

Among other woeful failures I hit the end stop and the pinion fell off the motor shaft, degreased it and put back with Loctite 638. Ok so far..

+ 1 more. I've had so many problems with Raymarine kit - including my 2 year old ST2000+.
