St Vaast is..

.. where you go when you die - if you've been good all your life. Have a good time.

err - full of dead bodies?

.. prerhaps thats why the harbour niffs a bit at low tide. I'd always thought it was the fish.

Dont disagree with the sentiment.

Derek - give my regards to Monsieur Gosselin.

It is a long time since I have been there so I guess things could have changed but I seem to remember that there are two South Cardinal buoys on the way in and on more than one occasion I have mistaken one for the other and if we hadn't spotted our mistake in time, would have ended up on the rocks......

I have just got my extremely out of date chart out and the buoys are (were?) "Le Gavendest" and "La Dent". As I recall, we were coming in from the N.E. and somehow spotted La Dent first and were making for that thinking that it was Le Gavendest. Fortunately we spotted Gavendest in time and bore off to the South East in good time.

I guess that if it is possible for me to make the mistake, it is quite possible for someone else to do the same so be warned! However St. Vaast is a lovely place and well worth a visit.... and the Oysters are just wonderful...... enjoy!

The outer cardinal was moved a couple of years ago and is now in a more sensible and obvious place.

Derek, we are hoping to cross over from Cowes to St Vaast on Friday 9th as well. Or possibly in the early hours of Saturday. I have not looked at the tide times yet! The weather will probably be wrong!!! All the best.

Re: Weather

Keep an eye on a small system trailing the major low to the north, it might wind up and run up the Channel on Friday and Saturday.

theyr.net is predicting a F6
