I want to travel from Richmond to St Kaths.not done it before . My speed is 7 kts. Any advice greatly received .had lots of experience but not the Thames.Thanks.

My take would be to be at barrier as soon as it opens. Then go down against tide, ( however slowly) this in theory should get you near St Kats around HW.
Gives you a couple of hours leeway to get to lock if you get wall to wall rowers and/or engine problems . Your engine will get a real testing time running near maximum for three hours or so.?
Depending on your boat or circumstances a neap tide will get you less current to push against and a really early lock in to avoid all the river traffic wash is worth planning.
Have been through London when it has been like a mill pond for the entire journey, plus of course ANY 04.30 start, annoys the hell out of the wife.:)
