SSR part 3 registration number and display requirement.

I have the original ICC but I copy and laminate as I have 5 boats and carry one on each boat. No-one has ever queried its 'condition' ... in fact I carry a reduced sized copy - slightly larger than credit card and that's laminated in my wallet ... again - no-ones ever queried it.

With regard to displaying SSR - I don't understand the reluctance to have it on the boat ... no need for monstrous numbers like a lot of Latvian boats have !! but sensible on the transom or 1/4 ... why not ?
Ours is 40mm, quite a fine font so as not to be intrusive, colour matched to other graphics. In order to allow foreign officialdom no room for complaint, it’s on both sides of the coachroof just fwd of the cockpit.
BTW there is another reason to register, you need it if you want to fly a different ensign, ie anything but the standard red duster.

Seems daft to me that if you have gone to the trouble of having a registration system you would not make it compulsory to display this by marking so that anyone interested in further confirming the identity of the vessel can check it without disturbing the occupant or requiring their presence.

It always used to have written on back of the SSR certificate :

Offences
It is an offence for any person to:
1. with intent etc
2. fail to ensure the requirements of ships marking is met
3. etc

So is that #2 no longer stated ?

It used to be written in the accompanying letter - to display the SSR at rear 1/4 of the boat if possible. I know many of us put it either side of companionway or on the actual transom ...

No, none of that is there now, and it looks like the paper copy will cease before long as the most prominent part of the certificate is now a qr code linking to the online certificate.

Oh marvelous !!

Luckily Latvia issues a proper document .... in fact for most small stuff - its same laminated Technical Passport as with a car ... for larger that are via the Latvian Shipping Dept - its a full A4 Registration doc.
For my Swedish International - its a half A4 document ...
