Just had an interesting occurance and wonder if anyone can help out.
Is it possible , knowing the boat´s name and its SSR number to find out to
whom it´s registered to without going to the actual registering authority.
Some one has done this to me and I would like to know if it is that easy
(e.g. from a web site)
I hope someone can help.

Re: tell us more...

O.K. Think its Big Brother , the Tax Man, or a bit of "Eurocracy"
The family boat is registered in our childrens name who both live in the U.K.
The boat is kept in Spain where we live. It has been in the local Marina for
about six years and all the dealings with the Marina have been by us. At no time
have our offspring´s names been quoted. Suddenly all invoices, correspondence
etc is addressed to our daughter but at our Spanish address. Question "why"
and how did they get her name?. Only from the U.K. authorties I would think.
It could have sinister connotations, checking to see if Spanish import duty was payable- a not inconsiderate sum.
So what does it all point to -are we all being watched more closely than we think'.
Anybody got any suggestions?

Re: tell us more...

YES YOU ARE BEING WATCHED!

They, the Spanish, are after tax, as you so rightly guess. We came across over twenty seperate incidents last summer on the south coast, and have since heard that people with boats as far noth as Denia have suddenly been presented with large tax demands.

From what I've heard, do not EVER admit to living on the boat with it as your home and state that you are always popping in and out of the country...they can't check that you haven't if you claim road travel to France or Gib.

Highest bill heard of was 36.000 Euro's, and saddest was a couple in their 60's where he has stayed behind with his boat and she has come back to England as she is so upset with it all. Too late in life to start splitting up.
