Guapa's currently SSR registered.
We've got a marine mortgage (RBOS) which is starting to weigh on the monthly budget (APR 9.6%).
I've found I can re-mortgage at a much more favourable APR 5.6% "abroad".
Only caveat I would need to register Guapa in that country. I've got most of the paperwork sorted but require proof that the boat has been de-registered in the UK.

The MCA website has plenty of info on registration and allows on-line registration - but de-registration? Nothing, nada.
I e-mailed them last week - no reply as yet.
I phoned today - after 25 minutes on hold mood music I hung up.

Anyone know how you de-register and what's involved?

Thanks

This would be a change of circumstances notification, so short note in writing requiring acknowledgement is all that's needed, I hear.

1. Curious as to how the new mortgagor (abroad) knows the vessel is registered here.

2. Also curious to learn how to register abroad (presumably in the EU) without changing residence yourself?

Mortgager doesn't know (or care) - local registration authorities do.
Need local registration to get the far cheaper, foreign mortgage.

Am being posted early next year - this opened up the new avenue

The SSR is held at Cardiff by the British Registry of Shipping not the MCA. So give them a ring and speak to the very helpfull ladies and they will put you right.

The telephone number is 02920448800.

To close the SSR register apply in writing with all registered owners signatures. A deletion certificate will them be issued to you which the local authorities will accept as proof of de-registration.
