SSB Weather Fax Software

We have JVComm32 but also have SeaTTY. The 'demo' overprint on JVComms is acceptable but does degrade the pic a little. Personally I liked SeaTTY more and eventually registered it for about £20, it does Navtex, Fax and RTTY, excellent little program.

SeaTTY is SeaTTY here

I also have MScan Meteo which in demo form obliterates so much I couldn't trial it - their loss!

No, it keeps on going!! We've been using the free version for many years now and the latest version (I THINK it's 1.42) is excellent. It's full function, but the free version does have two feint columns with the word 'Demo' that show on the finished fax. It also shows a picture of the designer on your screen for a few seconds after you close the programme.

These in no way affect the use or interpretation of the faxes and are there as a gentle reminder from the sw designer that one might like to contribute.

If you make the specified payment for the 'full' version, the two columns and the picture disappear.

Oh, and before the righteous query why we don't buy the full version, it's because it's offered freely with the slight disfigurement and you are given the option to live with this or not. We choose to live with it.

Seatty did not used to handle weather fax but was my preferred RTTY and navtex software, I will have to have a look for the updated version.

I use an old but very usable version of MScan Meteo which I have found works very well with my nasa rx. I have no intention of upgrading as the actual charts and SSB have not changed at all. It works why fix it.

One day soon I might be able to play with it again, but that day will come after toshiba get a very special spare part and fix my small lappy which has been in warranty repair for a month now. Chinese crud!

I do wish someone would design a black box that will record all the data during the day onto a 2Gb (say) usb memory stick at ultra low power and allow you to then check the faxes together on the laptop. Power is precious and leaving the lappy on all day costs a lot of amps. ho hum.

SeaTTY does do weatherfax in the latest versions although I cannot remember if that is only available after you register. I often run JVComms and SeaTTY at the same time, strangely if (RTTY) bits are dropped it isn't the same bits on both. MScan however on RTTY drops whole lines of text out on the demo version I have, not very helpful if you are tring to evaluate both the program and the information source. My MScan too showed the fax briefly then covered it with 'DEMO' labels so it was unreadable.

Robin,

MMTTY (just Google for it and select one of the sites for a free download) is excellent and far better than JV, Mscan etc. It ONLY does RTTY, but it's full screen with options for different backgound and font colours, so you can e.g. have a large black text on a bright yellow background which is our favourite. Fab for clarity when the old eyes are getting tired! /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

This SW works even when JV and others doesn't. It's really worth trying out.

I have a SSB, a PC and now downloaded SeaTTY. How do I choose which frequency to tune the SSB? I will sail intially UK South Coast but thereafter around Mallorca

Thanks
