Squatters in the stream..

[ QUOTE ]
Behind all the pontification and BS the fact remains they are bunch of bums leeching off the state.

[/ QUOTE ]

In your opinion.

I agree with Chrusty Byron, your description is not quite fair.

'Filthy thieving scum' is a more apt description.

These festering idiots are more akin to our Caravan dwelling parasites, grabbing stuff that doesn't belong to them in a deluded misbelief that if the current owner doesn't want to, or can't currently use it, then they can claim full rights.

Well when my Boat is not being used IT STILL BELONGS TO ME!

Stinking hippies /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

I see the fourth Reich is alive and well, and snuffling about on the Thames!.............You lot are perishing unbelieveable!

[ QUOTE ]
The squatters claim the ait - or small river island - is common land and intended for public use, something that is disputed by the local authority.

[/ QUOTE ]

Quite correct. The local council own Ravens Ait. The management company went bust, the council still own it.

[ QUOTE ]
The 12 group members insist they have reclaimed the land for the people and want to to establish a self-sufficient, eco-friendly centre as a meeting point for community and environmental groups.

[/ QUOTE ]

Who gave them permission to do this? I presume the need permission from the landowner, otherwise Chrusty's house can be legally adopted by these scum as well. Any comment Chrusty?

Nah, didn't think so... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

[ QUOTE ]
We want to provide the community with a resource that they can use whenever they like," says one squatter, who calls himself Revolving Nick.

[/ QUOTE ]

Yet....

[ QUOTE ]
Visitors are taken to the ait by pre-ordered ferry and are obliged to sign in on arrival.

[/ QUOTE ]

Really? Obliged? Obliged by these thieves who are squatting illegally on Council property, paid for, in the absence of rent paying management, by the local community.
And what, pray tell, are people signing in for?

'Officialdom' does not apprently suit these thieves, unless they feel like it...

[ QUOTE ]
Those giving tours wear fluorescent jackets, and visitors are not permitted to drink alcohol.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oh, so the scum make laws now do they?

They don't abide by UK laws, just their own. Anarchic scum...as for 'not being permitted to drink alcohol' that's staggering, as they are 'allowed' to smoke pot and play music in a public place with no licence.

[ QUOTE ]
As an evening drumming session begins, the Surrey island feels more Glastonbury than Surbiton.

[/ QUOTE ]

I BET IT SMELLS LIKE IT TOO!

I'll also bet they are mostly benefit scrounging workshy to55ers who reap the benefits sytem for everything it's worth, in order to enjoy their scummy lifestyle.

Chrusty, you have singlehandedly destroyed any credibility you had.

Nice own goal /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Do you really think I give a damn what a bunch of ultra right wing tory tossers think of me?????????

If I was to take any of your inane and pathetic blatherings seriously, it would make my skin crawl. As it is I just right you off as the jokes you really are......still you do provide a few laughs now and again when I haven't got anything much else to do.

It's not a question of being right wing or even a tosser though.

It's about a bunch of inbred hippies squatting on council owned property, and the resultant bill the local residents will be faced with clearing up the mess once they are legally evicted.

Then there is the question of the utility companies who inevitably won't get paid for the Water, Electricity and so on...

You know how much it costs to run a normal house. That place will cost Thousands of pounds a week, none of which will ever get paid.

Now this is fine for you to defend, assuming you'll foot the bill yourself....but somehow I doubt even you are that stupid.

Tell you what, why don't you invite them around to yours? /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Oh, and it's 'Write you off' not 'right you off'

Not that you care anybody thinks you're semi literate either /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

Having a good friend who was on the receiving end of squatters I can tell you it is and feels like theft, invasion of privacy and cost a fortune in time, emotion , toll on health and money to get past and over it.

I and he had have sympathy with the truely homeless who are desperate and need shelter if the system lets them down and when lots of buildings are empty for years and years. It is fact however that many are well educated, employable and absolutely do it for the thrill of taking from others and to freeload from a flawed system that allows it and protects them in favour of law abiding, tax paying citizens. My buddy actually worked in homeless hostels and spent Christmas serving food to the homeless and invested hours of his time in helping and paying from his own pocket to help those he considered less fortunate than him. To say his view was soured when he property was stolen, his house wrecked would be an understatement.

O and yes he was a Tory voter.

Left wing or right wing matters not because those who decide on this way of life through choice care little about the political views of the owners of the properties they steal.

It is a joke that it is a civil offence, it should be a crime. Why is it considered ok that if you work your self silly, attain a few things in life that others have a right because they did not get to have what you have to steal them from you.

I know not enough about these particular individuals to venture a personal opinion on them. I do however find the rules they are making for their visitors amusing as it seems to go against their belief of freedom and giviing back to "the people" what they perceive is theirs to give.

Chrusty seems a little confused.

He seems to think it's fine that squatters invade an island, yet when it comes to cold callers knocking on ones door:

[ QUOTE ]
Aren't these cold calling companies downright pests though! By what right do they feel that they can just invade peoples time and space?

Beats me why anyone gives them the time of day.

[/ QUOTE ]

[ QUOTE ]
As Far as I am aware it is not legal for any commercial organisation to cold call anyone who is registered with the telephone preference agency, for any reason.

[/ QUOTE ]

So, it's OK to steal a whole island, but not knock on somebodies door? Err, yeah, no?

Go figure... /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

For Gawd's Sake Admiral, stop feeding the troll!! I can hear you from here in Friesland! Chrusty1 has a well-established reputation as a trouble-maker. Just have a look at some of his efforts to wind people up in the Lounge. Must be quiet in there today so he's looking for fresh 'victims'. Pity he doesn't do something interesting like going boating - but then thats not his sport. Ignore the nob - he's got nothing of relevance to say!

Why don't the Thames forum members be pro-active.

They must out number the squatters, so invade the Island, take over and form the Thames Forum Yacht Club. Private moorings, income from vistors, bar, meals, endlass possibilities.

Good idea, problem is we would be evicted within hours. The only people allowed such latitude are those who are living off the state and those who can scream racist when asked to conform to society's rules.
