Re: Oops sorry - long post

Yes, that Azi brochure pic somehow stretches the saloon. My pic is a real boat, no trick photography!

Here's another pic showing the shortness of the saloon

and this one shows the corresponding long length of the mid part - the ceiling of the owners cabin

and the long dining area, sort of sitting along a bench, not great for conversation

whereas here is the sq 58 dining, much more social and less bench-like... you'd have a much more pleasant dinner for 5 here than on the Azi bench

The Sq58 has electric windows in the saloon and by the dining table. It also has electric popup flat TV, rises out of the sideboard (on 2004 model year)

The laundry room on Sq is customisable. You can have full utility room, or a twin cabin, or kind of both ie single bed, loo, sink, and washing machine/dryer - that's what we got

The boatshow Sq58 wasn't navy inside, maybe you are mixing it up? It is boat #72, now tied up on AA pontoon in Chichester, it has ivory leather sofas and light beige carpet, cherry wood and black ish granite worktop stuff. It's still for sale by the way

Must have got it a bit mixed up then *blush*

They offered us the one that was at the boat show but said it'd almost certainly be sold ha ha.

I suppose the thing that makes the AZ saloon feel longer is the way its integrated with the rest of the boat.

The SQ does look MUCH more substantial altho do you find the sideboard on your right as you go in the door sticks out a little too far?

Obviously a total windup

erm, well, both these boats look quite nice and i can't tell the difference! I bet az are kicking themselves for the steering wheel.

I spect most squaddie owners quite like the sideboard jutting out so that can steady themselves to put their slippers on?

Hi, these boats do look the part but I have one question, and its not a thinly disguised dig, are these sort of boats FUN? what do you do with them that provides you, at the end of every day you use them, something to look back on and relive. Arent they a pain to moor and 'un-moor' and lots of smaller out of the way places inaccessible etc.

As i say im not having a go at your choices of boat but just really interested to know.

As you walk thru the door, it doesn't stick out, you're not gonna bash it, see pic below. But at the centre it is quite deep, becos they used to have a normal TV in there and the depth is needed. Now they have flat TV, rises electrically out of the top of the sideboard, so they could saw off the curvy stick out bit and make the whole thing shallower, but they either decided not to or couldn't be bothered!

No apology required..!

from either of you

For the record and , I thought it was obvious, I am too bloody lazy to create false identities. HELL i have enough problems working out the real me without pretending to be something or someone else.. can not even work out if I wanna boat.

P.S. I still like the AZ55

Re: Oops sorry - long post

Not sure I can answer. TCM's pic is better. Fun means differnet things to different peeps. These are different boats and different type of fun to your machine (which must do 80mph plus?)

Your boat sounds great but I wouldn't want it. After a blast or 2 at 80 (or 90?) mph it would be, "done that" for me. Not criticising your choice of fun at all.... I totally respect it

The fun on a mid or big med boat is actually chilling in the sun, having space that teenage kids dont winge, eating and drinking, having enough luxury space to take friends, being able to carry decent tender, tinkering with lots of mechanicals, and loads of other stuff. One fact that might help is that on a mid size boat in med we spend much more time stopped/anchored, than passagemaking. I really enjoy passages and navigational challenge but we often fly 100miles to the boat for weekend and put 15 miles on the log and 1 hour on the clocks. We kind of live in the boat rahter than take a fast ride on it and then want to get off.

Mooring is a piece of cake. Putting a 5m wide boat in a 5.5m wide space is same as putting a 2.5m boat in a 3m space

As for access to places, I can get more places than your boat frexample. I suspect I have more range and more 20knot comfort than your rocket ship if there are waves, so faraway places are easier, if there's a tiny creek/cave or whatever with limited access I can launch a RIB with a crane and get right in.

Not picking a fight, I know your question was "just asking" and I'm just answering as best I can :)

Re: big boat fun

Exactly the same as above.

I liek to be able to cruise down to places like bordeaux or more specifically La Rochelle from her berth in Eastbourne - big size means more people and more people the bigger the party once we get there and are safely moored.

Like the gentleman above we have a JetRib and altho the F43 was big enough it was only JUST big enough and we had to have a special crane made up by whittal for us!!

I'd love a drive of your boat as i drive a fast car but doesn't it get a little uncomfy at speed (I don't know if it does as i've not been in one like yours)

Berthing can be a problem and it was something i looked into as one of our favorite places has to be a small marina called "Trebeurden" (Excuse spelling) but there is almost always a hammer head or something that will work.

For speed on the water i use my jet rib - only about 45mph but soooo small and responsive (When it works) and then i have the car, you CAN have fun in these boats, i mean they are on the plane and turn tight relative to the size and that in its self is fun.

With the boat i have more fun entertaining than thrashing and making it uncomfortable for others - but that's just me and i have a very open mind in these things.

Just my 2p's worth.

Re:Short post

All boats are fun. Most of us start off with some teeth rattling scary pocket rocket, but when your back aches for longer than your day out,you want your fun a bit more comfy.Would consider it fun to spend a day out on any boat, but the bigger the better.
One quick deciding question Kevin.Exactly how many bottles of wine does the fridge on your machine hold./forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

Re: big boat fun

LOL Many thanks for the picture, definitly worth a view. Do you have any of these ladies phone numbers -smiley face-

It is interesting to read the various views and I agree that fun is different for everybody.I drive a Range Rover most would say boring but its personality abound is what makes it the car i want to drive and brings a smile to my face everytime I walk towards it.

i often cruise about and do the 200 mile ( only about 50 short of my fairly low maximum range) poker style runs in mine sometimes at about 40 or so. being 40 feet long and designed for offshore use it is surprisingly comfortable as that was what it was designed to do -fast passage making. Not obviously on the same level of comfort of the big cruisers but everything i feel i need as im sure everybody elses boat is for them.

It is interesting to learn what others look for and want and enjoy about their boat and like i say definitly not wanting to start an argument, as pointless as arguing about music or anything else so very subjective.

my fridge holds about 5 bottles of wine but being teetotal its often just water ( did i just admit that in an open forum!!)

interesting.

thanks

kevin
