spray hood going green - any suggestions for cleaning?

Thought I'd put my money where my mouth is, so to speak - just ordered 5 litres of Benzalkonium Chloride BAC50 from Ebay for £22 delivered. Should last a while!

If you can get it in the washer 4 scoops Wizz Oxyaction and four scoops powder-no more than 60 degrees. My wheel house side screens went in green an hour ago and now almost clean-will give it a second run tonight. Then reproof with Storm Canvas reproofer.

is it really that simple with Patio Magic? Normally anything to do with boats involves large amounts of cash, specialist expertise and working in exterrmely confined spaces with inadequate sight of the thing being worked on. Do I really just spray it on and go home?

A couple of questions when using Patio Magic......do you have to be careful not to over-spray plastic windows of a cockpit canopy? Also, will it cause teak deck caulking to soften?

Many thanks, Allan

It has no ill effects that I have found in years of using it. Caulking is unaffected. My portholes and hatch are glass but it's not going to hurt plastic.

Is that the "Storm brush on canvas proofer" http://www.stormwaterproofing.com/application/waterproof/brush-on-canvas-waterproofer-5l.html? Do you find it good?
I ordered a can of it last year hoping it would be on the lines of the old Mesowax that you can't get now but they sent me the much more expensive thin one that's just like Fabsil, which I don't find very effective on heavy fabric, by mistake and it was too much hassle to send it back.

No problem, there is a guy in Southampton who has the equivalent of 35 litres of Patio Magic, who might sell some off cheap. See post 37.

It's certainly going to be enough to last a while, so I probably will be selling some of this on, most likely to fellow yacht club members!

For those who have succesfully used Patio Magic on green sprayhoods and dodgers, do you usually use it neat? - if not, how much do you dilute it?

Suggested dilution is 4:1 water to magic. Adjust to suit conditions. I use neat spray on small bad areas sometimes found over winter when boat doesn't get used so much.

If its very green then I would reduce the dilution. You may need to go neat ! Don't expect instant results, you should see an improvement the next day but it will gradually improve with time.

Just to add that I have found that prevention is better than cure. Once you've got rid of the green then apply yearly even if you don't think that it's necessary.
