I dare say many of you will get this one quite easily. Now we have another mobo it's good to be back on the pontoons - but I had a surprise yesterday to see this neglected vessel. Ten points for the first correct answer, and a bonus five if you can identify the weed species growing through the teak cockpit.

Tis a Princess 42. The boat that is - not the weedy lawn! You should see the hull - there's a huge crop of kelp growing off it waiting to be harvested. Sad to see such a lovely boat unloved. Blimmin owner must have more money than sense.

Or maybe, has no money left and is just forgetting about it...... Sad times. I heard the other day, there are many boat owners on the shannon who have just left their boats and what's happening now if they are sinking slowly but surely....

Heard of one flybrige cruiser and all that is still exposed is the flybridge!

It's not great, but you'd have it looking fine again with a weekends cleaning, plus a professional polish. The weed is growing in a bit of silt that's accumulated over the winter, and will wash away with a hose pipe, leaving the teak unmarked.

If I was looking for a bargain P42, i'd probably find out who the owner is and make them a silly offer.

I don't understand that at all. If he can't afford the boat and can't afford to sell surely it would be best to find somewhere with cheap (ish) hardstanding and keep it there?

I wouldnt want it at 1/2 price, all the anodes will have wasted away including the engine anodes.

Sate of diesel in the tanks a concern along with half fill rotting steel ?????

As you say though £500 polish and it will look cared for and some poor mug will end up with a heap of trouble, one of the reasons why we have kept our boat so long.

I looked at a boat that had been neglected a few years back, didn't buy it but saw it back on the market later on having had the bull5hit brush applied, it's not what you can see, it's the unknown, buying a bag of worms comes to mind!

Btw, is it a princess 42?
